It’s so crazy how quickly February seemed to fly by. It’s been such a crazy month with weather events that left many people cold, hungry, and thirsty. Even though February was quite bizarre for so many reasons, there were many incredible things that I loved this month as well. Here were just a few of them.
Jazmine Sullivan & Eric Church's Singing "The National Anthem" at The Super Bowl
I was so excited when I heard that Jazmine Sullivan was singing The National Anthem at the Super Bowl. In full disclosure, I had never heard Eric Church’s music before, but the two of them did such a great job blending their styles. I love the gospel/blues flare that they added to the song. Their performance gave me chills! Jazmine looked phenomenal. I especially loved her outfit and the diamond chains in her hair.
H.E.R.'s "America the Beautiful" Super Bowl Performance
H.E.R.’s performance of “America the Beautiful” was terrific! She took a song that I have heard a million times and made it into a completely unexpected work of art! The performance started with the warmth of the strings and the perfection of her voice. Then she rocked it out with her electric guitar and then took it home with the unexpected chords and vocal runs on the ending. It was perfection, and she looked beautiful, too!
Cinderella (1997) Debuting on Netflix
I was so excited when I found out that the 1997 version of Cinderella was coming to Netflix. A whole new generation of little black girls will now be able to see themselves as Cinderella as well. In the ’90s, Brandy and Whitney were some of my favorite celebrities. Let’s not forget about Whoopi Goldberg. She is a legend in my book from Sister Act 2 alone!
Kirk Franklin's Tiny Desk Performance
First of all, Kirk Franklin is one of the gospel G.O.A.T.s, and his Tiny Desk performance further proved that. I was singing along loudly the entire time. From his most recent songs to songs I remember singing back in middle school, every song was a bop! He has brought us consistent hits for almost 30 years. If you haven’t seen his Tiny Desk performance, you have to check it out!
Shark IQ Robot Vacuum
My mother-in-law got my family a Shark Robot Vacuum for Christmas. Because we have two dogs, it is essential to constantly vacuum to keep the dust and dander at a minimum. The great thing about this vacuum is that you can use an app to schedule it to vacuum on certain days and times. Also, the vacuum has technology where it learns the layout of your house and memorizes it to make it more efficient at keeping things clean.
