How to Make a DIY Halloween Wreath

Prepping the Pool Noodle

This image shows a pair of hands holding silver duct tape with a black pool noodle laying on the surface behind it.

Now, let’s roll our sleeves up and dive into the how-to part! I considered a regular-sized wreath form for this project, but the bigger-is-better vibe took over. So, I introduced the pool noodle as our secret weapon. It will help us create that perfect-sized wreath to make your front porch a showstopper. Speaking of the pool noodle, snag some duct tape that matches its color. I learned the hard way – black or dark gray would’ve been the smarter move.

This image shows a pair of hands holding the ends of a pool noodle together while another pair of hands wraps silver duct tape where the pool noodle ends meet.

Alright, brace yourself for a little hiccup I encountered. Initially, I only used two strips of duct tape to hold the pool noodle’s ends together, but guess what? That thing was looser than a toupee in a windstorm! No shade if you’re into toupees, though. The lesson here? More tape is better than not enough. Seriously, go all out with the tape – I went for five big strips, and it did the trick. To be extra cautious, I threw in one more significant piece of tape for good measure, making it six.

Adding the Pumpkin Filler Decoration

This image shows a pool noodle wreath held together by silver duct tape with five purple and orange pumpkin fillers are glued to the wreath.

Now, grab those 12 bags of pumpkin-shaped vase fillers – 6 in bright orange and 6 in majestic purple. Add a dab of hot glue to the base of each pumpkin. Let it chill for about 30 seconds to ensure it’s locked in place.  Glue those pumpkins around the pool noodle wreath, and here’s the twist – no color order is needed. I went for the randomness, keeping things fresh and unpredictable.

As we tackle the second and third layers of pumpkins, remember to keep them close together. We’re all about minimal spacing and maximum cuteness. And here’s a pro tip: when those pumpkins venture to the sides, hold them down for about 30 seconds so they don’t fall off. And just when you think we’re done, let’s go one more row for that polished side view – we’re keeping that pool noodle hidden.

Clear out those hot glue spider webs

Attaching the Spider Web and the Giant Spider

This image shows a hand holding a black tinsel spider web while the pool noodle wreath lays face down underneath.

Now, let’s talk about the stars of the show – the spider web and that fabulous giant spider. We got this spider web from Dollar Tree, and the mission is to remove the plastic spider so our tinsel remains intact carefully. Now, our glittery purple spider? It’s like the Beyoncé of spiders – shining, sparkling, and giving off that Halloween glam.

This image shows a hand lifting up the purple glitter spider's legs to place a dollop of hot glue underneath..

Flip the spider over, apply hot glue to that’ll stick out and touch the web touch the web, and place it in the center. Press it down for a solid thirty seconds. Lift each spider leg, add a bit of glue where the leg meets the web, and hold it down for another thirty seconds. Now, let’s outline the spider web’s corners with hot glue. Before the glue dries, place the wreath on the web’s center and hold it down for about 30 seconds.

How to Make a Bow

This image shows a hand holding loops of two different patterned ribbons with the pool noodle wreath in the background.

Time to level up with a bow! I scored these ribbons on a Halloween sale at Michael’s – talk about a win. If you’ve got a spider-themed ribbon, use that instead because it will match the vibes of the wreath. Grab those pipe cleaners and make a loop of ribbon, wrap it around three full times, and snip it off. Repeat the ribbon magic with the second spool, stack them up, wrap the pipe cleaner around them both. Fluff it out and manipulate it until it’s your kind of fabulous.

This image shows a pair of hands holding an orange ribbon with black polka dots and an inverted V cut. The pool noodle Halloween wreath is in the background.

Now, let’s talk ribbon tails – snip a 20-inch piece from each ribbon, fold it in half, line the two ends up, and cut it at an angle to start with the wired edge going up diagonally so that you create those trendy “Inverted V” tails. Layer the tails,  secure them to the bow with the pipe cleaner from the bow, and give it a tight twist.

Get that bow looking as cute as possible. Usually, I’d attach a bow with a pipe cleaner, but since we’ve got that plump pool noodle, things are a bit thicker. I went for a combo of hot glue and floral wire – just for that extra reassurance. Using the floral wire is optional – you do you, Boo. Snip the wire ends and push them down when you’re done.

Adding the Finishing Touches

Alright, let’s get those little glitter spiders in the mix! Bring out that hot glue and attach them to the pumpkins. Keep them spread out nice and neat, and give them a finger hold to keep those sparkly spiders from falling off.

Tips for Customization

Time to put your own spin on this glittery spider wreath. How about swapping those spiders for mini pumpkins or tiny ghosts? And if you want to go the extra mile, toss in some fairy lights to make it shine bright at night. Don’t be shy with ribbons – mix and match colors and patterns to give it your special touch. Remember, this wreath is like your canvas – get creative and have fun!
