Things That I Love (May 2021)
I know I say this every month, but I cannot believe that May is over with already. There were so many great things that happened this month, so I want to share just a few of my faves from May 2021.
Verzuz (SWV vs. X-Scape)
One important thing to know about me is that ’90’s R&B music is my favorite music genre. So you had to know I was super excited for the Verzuz Battle between SWV and X-Scape. It took me back to my middle/ high school days! (Oh no! I think I’m telling my age!) Anyway, these two girl groups sang songs that were part of the soundtrack to my childhood, and I was completely here for it! Especially when SWV sang “Anything.” I was in my living room doing all the moves right along with them. I am a big fan of both groups, so if you asked me who won, my answer would be everyone who watched. I miss girl groups. We absolutely need more of them.
The Upshaws
When I first heard about this show, I already knew I would see what it was about> I mean, why not? I love Kim Fields. She was legendary as Regine and Tootie, and she comes from a legendary Hollywood family. Mike Epps and Wanda Sykes are both comedy legends as well.
The Upshaws is a hilarious show in a slightly messy way. It shows the realness that happens in families… not just black families, but all families. The writing is super funny! I don’t want to give anything away (if you haven’t watched it yet), so I will say you should check it out on Netflix.
High on the Hog
Okay, so I wasn’t ready for this show, High on the Hog. But, it was more than a show; it was a cultural experience! I looked at the trailer, so I already thought I knew what this show would be the direction this show would take. I thought it would be a food show that talked about the traditions in African American cuisine, but it was so much more than that.
First of all, the cinematography was mesmerizing. It was a love letter to the continent of Africa. Seeing Africa in all of its glory was something I never experienced on a television screen before. Second, I learned a lot about our food and culture, but more than that, I learned a lot about myself. The crazy thing is I have only seen the first episode, but I can’t wait to watch the rest.
Craft Decor Chalk Writer Pens
I was pleasantly surprised when I purchased the Chalk Writer pens from Dollar Tree. They write smoothly, and they are erasable. You can use these for all types of craft projects, and unlike regular chalk, they don’t make a big mess.
Don't Be a Stranger
I know my list was shorter than usual, but these are the only things from May 2021 that I loved enough to include in this post.
