How to Make a DIY Dollar Tree Patriotic Centerpiece

There are several patriotic holidays throughout the year (Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Presidents Day, etc.  My favorite things about all of the celebrations are the food, the fireworks, and family.  Even though I am not a huge barbecue eater, it’s a big deal in the state where I live.  Over the last year or so, I haven’t gotten to see my family a lot, but I love it when we hang out and enjoy the celebrations.  Whenever we have family over, I love to decorate and make everything look festive.  I am going to share with you an easy way to make a DIY Dollar Tree Patriotic centerpiece.

Creating the Deco Mesh Bundles

How to Make a DIY Dollar Tree Patriotic Centerpiece

First, grab your red Dollar Tree decorative mesh and cut off a 6-inch piece.  Grab the mesh from the center and roll it tightly.  Put a clamp on it to keep it in place.

Repeat the same process with the white decorative mesh.  Open up the clamp and place the white rolled-up deco mesh on top of the red at a slight angle.  Close the clamp again.

Do the same thing with the blue mesh, putting it in the opposite direction of the white.  Close the clamp on all three pieces of mesh.

Grab one piece of pipe cleaner.  You want your pipe cleaner to be the same as one of your decorative mesh colors (Red, White, or Blue), or you could also do black.

Take the clamp off of your bundle of mesh and use your fingers to keep them together.  Bend it in half around the center of the mesh bundle and twist it at least three times to secure it.  Put your hand around the mesh and pull it in the opposite direction of the pipe cleaner to make it stay together and cause them to stand up.

Now put that piece to the side and continue the process until you run out of mesh.  Because the mesh is 5 yards, you should be able to make 30 bunches of the mesh before you run out.

The Dollar Tree mesh is a little cheap; therefore, it will unravel.  You can use your scissors to cut off all of the stray pieces.

Attaching the Mesh to the Wreath Form

Grab your 8-inch wreath form and three pipe cleaners.  Twist a pipe cleaner near each of the three dividers in the wreath form.  You will use these, later on to add ribbons to the centerpiece.

Take one of the mesh bunches and tie the pipe cleaner around the middle and the inner ring of the wreath form.   Fit 10 wreath bunches in each section of the wreath form.  After you’ve put all 30 pieces on, spread them out and fluff them up to get the desired look.

Accessorizing Your Centerpiece

If you’d like, you could stop at this point, and it already looks great, but we are going to add a little more decoration first.

Grab three different kinds of coordinating 2.5-inch ribbon and cut three 10 inch pieces of each ribbon.  Wired ribbon is the best kind of ribbon to use because you can bend and shape it how you want.  Only one of my ribbons is wired because I was using whatever I had around my house.  Stack the three different ribbons on top of each other, placing the prettier ribbon on top. Grab the left and right corners and put them together with the pattern on the inside.  Cut the ribbon at an angle starting from the open sides, and you will end up with a split or inverted “V” cut.

Fold the ribbons in half so that you can find the halfway point.  Bunch the ribbons up a little at the center point and attach them to the wreath form with the pipe cleaner.   Twist the pipe cleaner to secure it. Cut the excess and hide the ends.  Spread the ribbons out and bend them to make sure they look good.

Place the white foam disc in the center of the centerpieces to add height to your candle holder.

Now put the clear Mario 7 inch vase on top of the disc.  Open both packages of Vase filler and pour them into the vase.  If you are trying to create a vibe, you can place a battery-operated candle in the center.
