Which side of the iron-on vinyl goes down?

When placing your iron-on  vinyl on your Cricut Mat, it should always be placed shiny side down.

Can you personalize a face mask?

Yes, you can personalize a face mask.  With your Cricut Machine, there are so many ways to personalize them. For example, you can add your name or pictures to your mask to make it custom for you.

Measuring the Mask

The first thing you are going to do is measure the space on your mask where you will place your name.  I will put the words on the top fold of the mask so my text cannot be taller than one inch and wider than five inches.

Designing the Text

Now you are going to open your Cricut Design Space App. First, click on the “Text” button on the left side of the screen. My client’s name is “Tammy,” so that is what I will be typing.

Click on “Fonts” to choose the font you like.  Also, if you want to use the free selections, click “Filter” and then choose “My Fonts” and hit “Apply.”

The first font that I selected was a font that I downloaded from Dafont.com called Muthiara.

Because we already measured the space on the mask, we know that the text needs to be less than 1 X 5 inches, so I resized it to be smaller than that.

If your text is cursive, right-click on the word and select “Weld” so that it will be cut out in one piece as opposed to five separate letters by your Cricut Machine.

I changed the color of my font to red and copied it two more times.  I am personalizing 27 masks for my client, so I will make a combo of three different colors and three different fonts.  She needs a lot of them because she uses them every day for work.

Then, I went back to “Fonts” and chose my second one which is called “Elephant”.  The third text I chose is “Jazz Text Extended.”

Now, I will make copies of each of these and change the colors to purple and white.

Hit the “Make It” button in the top right corner.  Now, select “Mirror” to reverse the image.  Space the words out a little bit.

Cutting the Iron-On Vinyl with Cricut

Turn your Cricut Machine on if it isn’t already and change the dial to “Custom.”

Go back to your computer screen.  The custom options should have popped up.  First, choose “Browse All Materials.”  This is where you select the specific type of vinyl that you have.  Next, choose “Everyday Iron-On” and select “More Pressure” to change the blade’s pressure in your machine.

Cut out your vinyl and place it on the mat, shiny side down.  If you have the Brayer Tool, use that to smooth out your vinyl. Unfortunately, I do not have that tool yet, so I used my scraper tool when my fist didn’t do the job.

Load your mat into the machine by hitting the “Load/Unload” button, then hit the “Go” button.  Then, let your Cricut Machine do its thing.

Repeat these steps for the red vinyl and the lavender vinyl.

I used my scissors to cut around each of the words on the vinyl carefully.

Weeding the Vinyl

Use the Weeding Tool to separate the corner of the heat transfer vinyl from the carrier sheet.  Then, weed away the unnecessary parts.  Also, use the Weeding Tool to remove the hard-to-get pieces.

Lay the text or HTV on your mask to see where you want it placed before you make it permanent.

Go back to your computer and look up the Cricut Heat Guide so that you can find out what setting to put your EasyPress on.

Select the vinyl you’ll be using.  For example, I selected “Everyday Iron-On.”

Now, enter your base material.  I tried to find out what material my masks were made out of, but the website just said “woven material,” so I will play it safe and choose “Cardstock.”

I will be using my EasyPress Mat, so that is what I selected.  Now, hit “Apply.”  The guide says we need to heat the EasyPress to 280 degrees and leave it on the masks for 30 seconds.  Then, remove the carrier sheet when it’s cool to touch.

Using the Cricut EasyPress

I am placing the name a little bit under the fold, but you will be able to see it when it’s worn because the mask will stretch out.

Place the mask on the EasyPress Mat.  Place the EasyPress on the mask with light pressure and press the “Start” button to begin the 30 second countdown.  Remove the carrier sheet when it is cool to touch.

Now, Repeat these steps for each mask that you are personalizing.
