How To Make It

First, measure the height of your tumbler cup.  My cup was 10 inches tall.

Designing the Word/Name On Cricut Design Space

Now, click on the Cricut Design Space app. Then, click on “New Project.”

Click on the word “text.”  Then type on the word or name that you want to put on the side of your personalized cup.  The word I typed was “Director.”  Size the word to make it large so that you can see all of the small details.

Choose the font you like.  The font I chose was a font I downloaded from dafont.com called Muthiara.  This font is free for personal use; however, if you would like to sell your tumbler, you will need permission from the author or purchase a license.

Continuously lower the letter spacing, stopping right before the letters begin to overlap each other.

Now, click on the word “Ungroup” so that you can move each letter separately.  Slide each letter over one by one so that each letter appears to be connected seamlessly.

Select the entire word.  Then, right-click and choose the word “Weld.” This is so the Cricut Machine will cut the entire word out in one solid piece.

Since I measured my cup at the beginning of the project, I know it is 10 inches tall.  Because of this, I  adjust the width of my word to 8 inches, so it fits on my tumbler comfortably.

Now, click the “Make It” button.  Make sure that you have the right Material Size chosen for your mat.  Mines is 12″ X 12″.  You do not need to mirror this image for this particular type of vinyl.

Cutting the Word/Name Out

Now, you are going to grab your black Premium Cricut vinyl and open the package.

When I adjusted the size of my word, I saw that it was about 3 inches tall.  So I am going to cut a piece of black vinyl that is about 4 inches tall.

Smooth the vinyl out on your Cricut mat.  Turn the Cricut Machine on and load the mat into the machine.  Set the dial on the device to “Custom.”

Go to your computer and set your Base Material to “Premium Vinyl” and set your pressure to “More.”

Go back to your Cricut Machine and press the “Go” button.  Now, your Cricut Machine should begin cutting out your word.

Push the “Unload” button to take your mat out.  Grab your Weeding tool and carefully remove all of the unnecessary vinyl.

Applying the Vinyl to Your Tumbler

Open up your Cricut Transfer Tape.  Cut a Transfer Tape piece that is 4 inches tall or tall enough to cover up your word/name. Peel the backing off of the Transfer Tape and place the tape on top of your vinyl word.

Make sure that your Transfer tape securely adheres to your vinyl word.  You can use your hand, the Brayer Tool, or the Scraper tool to make sure this happens.

Use rubbing alcohol and a cotton pad to clean the area on the tumbler where the vinyl will go.

Peel the Transfer Tape off of the backing.  If something does not stick to the tape correctly, then stop and repeat the rubbing process with your tools until it is okay.

After your cup has dried, line the vinyl words on your cup exactly where you want to place them.  Make sure that your word is straight.  Begin pushing your word down from the center and work your way to the ends.  You can use your scraper tool to rub the tape onto the cup.

Peel the Transfer Tape away from the vinyl at an angle of 45 degrees.  If the vinyl starts to stick to the Transfer Tape, rub the vinyl onto the cup using your scraping tool.

How to Take Care of Your Tumbler

To take care of your tumbler, wash it by hand to prevent the vinyl from messing up.  Check to see if there are any air bubbles or lumps in your vinyl.  If there is, use your scraping tool to slowly and gently push them out.
